Norwegian Maritime Museum

Local name: Norsk Maritimt Museum

The Norsk Maritimt Museum, or the Norwegian Maritime Museum, presents an exhibition on the history of shipping and maritime expeditions. It is located on the Bygdøy peninsula in Oslo. You can admire, among others models of various types of vessels, fishing equipment and numerous archaeological finds. The pearl in the collection is "Gjøa" - a ship that took part in one of Roald Amundsen's expeditions through the Northwest Passage.

The museum also has "Stavanger", a ship designed by the builder Colin Archer, who belonged to the crew of the naval guard. Also noteworthy is the three-masted schooner "Svanen" from 1916 (former training ship).

The exhibition consists of paintings of work and life at sea and a documentary film by Ivo Caprino. You can take advantage of the rich thematic collections of the library. The museum was founded in 1914.
