Stegastein is a viewpoint located in the municipality of Aurland in Norway. From a height of 640 meters above sea level, you can enjoy a spectacular view of the surrounding area, primarily the Aurlandsfjord (UNESCO World Heritage Site). The point was opened to visitors in 2006.
The platform is made of wood, steel and glass, it is 4 meters wide and 30 meters long. A thick protective glass was installed at the end of the structure. The platform was designed by Todd Saunders and Tommie Wilhelmsen.
The Aurlandsfjord stretches over 29 kilometers in the valley. It is the southern arm of the Sognefjord, the longest Norwegian fjord. It is surrounded by 1,800 meters high mountain slopes.
The construction of the Stegastein platform was carried out as part of the "National Tourist Routes" (Nasjonale turistveger) program under the patronage of the Norwegian Public Road Administration.
