Gevangenpoort Museum
Local name: Museum De Gevangenpoort
Museum De Gevangenpoort is located in a building belonging to the medieval Hague prison. In this regard, the museum exhibition is about issues related to the history of prosecution of crime and the development of Dutch prison. Visitors to this place can read the stories of escapes and learn about the prisoners here. You can also see the largest collection of torture instruments in the Netherlands. Most of them come from the period from the 16th to the first half of the 19th century.
In connection with the subject of the exhibition, the museum's website contains information that it is not intended for children under 8 years of age. This does not mean, however, that this place is inaccessible to students. Museum lessons, special guided tours and city walks, and even special birthday parties are organized here. The museum has existed since 1882 and is very popular.
