Schokland and Surroundings
Local name: Schokland en omgeving
The remains of the former settlement lie in the area, which until 1942 was an island. Residents left the village in the nineteenth century because of repeated floods. Currently, there is an archaeological site and a museum. The settlement was the first place in the Netherlands inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
