Defensive Batteries are located on both sides of the Gein River and are part of the fortification system around Amsterdam, fully inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage Line. They were built in the years 1800-1810 and as the only element of the old fortifications they were included in the new defense line of the city at the beginning of the 20th century.
