Big Alkmaar Church

Local name: Grote Kerk Alkmaar

Grote, Sint-Laurenskerk is a protestant church. St. Wawrzyniec, built in the Gothic style. It is worth paying attention to the painting "The Last Judgment" by Jacob Cornelisz van Oostsanen, which adorns the temple's vault. There are also graves of Count Floris V and Anna Visscher. The church is known primarily from two pairs of organs, famous all over the world. The smaller ones, made by Jan van Covelens in 1511, are the oldest organs in the Netherlands that still remain in use.

The second, larger organs, located at the west end of the church, are one of the most significant and beautiful organs in the world. They were built by Jacobus Caltus van Hagerbeer in 1645. They extend from the floor to the vault, making them part of the church's architecture.

The church is open to tourists during the summer months or by appointment.
