Local name: Saborni hram Hristovog Vaskrsenja
Cathedral of the Resurrection in Podgorica is the cathedral of the metropolitan of Montenegro and the Serbian Orthodox Church. It is the second largest church in the Balkans, after the Saint. Sawy in Belgrade. The cathedral is considered one of the most interesting Orthodox churches built in recent years. The building, distinguished by twin towers and a visible arch, has Romanesque, Italian and Byzantine influences. The interior is richly decorated with iconographic frescoes with a golden background.
When Podgorica became the capital of Montenegro, it was the only European capital without a cathedral. Therefore, quickly, in 1993, began to build it. The temple's architects are Predrag Ristić and Jovan Popović. The Cathedral of the Resurrection was consecrated on October 7, 2014 to celebrate the 1700th anniversary of the Milan Edict on freedom of religion. It is located in the very center of the city, near the academic town.
