Kotor Maritime Museum
Local name: Pomorski muzej u Kotoru
The Maritime Museum is located in the beautiful building of the Grgurin Palace Palace from 1732. You can find, among others, portraits of famous captains, ship models, navigation instruments, maps, engravings and watercolors of coastal cities, sailing outfits, as well as a copy of the oldest document about sailing in the area of Boka from 1168.
The collection located in the Maritime Museum was founded by the Boka Marine brotherhood. The building was open to visitors from around 1900, and after World War II it was restored and transformed completely for the needs of the museum. The collections are exhibited on two floors.
Sailing in Kotor began to develop in the middle of the ninth century. The museum stores memories of the successes of famous sailors, ship builders, scientists and navigators, and also protects various maritime traditions from oblivion.
