Promenade Xatt is-Sajjieda
Xatt is-Sajjieda is a street that runs along the promenade at the port quay. It offers wonderful views of the bay, ideal for walking and relaxing, but is famous above all for countless small restaurants specializing in fish and seafood dishes, prepared right after catching.
The tourist attraction of the port of Marsaxlokk are the unusually numerous traditional Maltese luzzu - colorful fishing boats with a pair of eyes painted on the bow, which were to protect fishermen from evil powers. In Marsaxlokk everything is related to fishing - at Xatt is-Sajjieda there is a famous Sunday fish market, a fisherman statue stands on the promenade, restaurants serve fish dishes, and in the port you can always buy everything that comes from the sea and is suitable for food.
Fishermen from Marsaxlokk cover most of Malta's fish and seafood demand. The most popular species are corifenes (golden mackerel), swordfish and tuna.
