Płungiany is a town in Samogitia associated with the well-known Polish family of Ogiński. A neo-Gothic palace surrounded by a large landscape park has been preserved here.

From medieval times, the city was owned by various noble families. However, the last owners, the Ogiński family, made the greatest contribution to its development. Płungiany remained in their hands until 1921, when the Lithuanian state divided up noble estates. In 1943, the greatest Polish Himalayan mountaineer, Wanda Rutkiewicz, was born in the city.

The biggest attraction and the main monument of the Plungians is the Palace in Plungy, surrounded by a large park. Currently, it houses the Museum of Samogitian Art. The neo-gothic building was arranged in this shape in the Ogiński times. At that time, a replica of the Florentine Vecchio Palace with the Court Clock was built in the Park in Płungiany.

In Płungiany you can also visit the neo-Romanesque church of St. John the Baptist, at which, in the interwar period, there was a school with very good opinions, run by the Capuchin Fathers.
