Płótele is a small town with the seat of the Żmudzki National Park. They are picturesquely situated on the lake of the same name, and their important monument are the remains of the Ogiński palace and park complex.

Żmudzki National Park covers vast areas with numerous lakes and moraine hills. One of these lakes is Plateliai. On its island you can find the remains of a medieval castle.

From the 16th century, the town of Płótele belonged to a dozen or so important noble families of Poland and Lithuania. The last owners were the Tyszkiewicz family, who built a classicist manor here. It has not survived to this day, but in the former manor park you can visit the Pótele Manor, i.e. the former farm buildings. Currently, they house the offices of the Samogitian National Park. The greatest historical attraction of Płótela is the Church of the Apostles Peter and Paul with its richly decorated interior.
