Neringa is a town on the Curonian Spit and one of the main Baltic resorts in Lithuania. You can see here a lot of buildings from the beginning of the 20th century, as well as picturesque seaside landscapes with dunes and wide beaches.
The town was founded in 1961 by joining four fishing settlements of the Curonian Spit, Juodkrantė, Preili, Pervalka and Nida. The most famous of them was Nida, which was frequently visited by tourists from the beginning of the 20th century. A wooden house, where the writer Thomas Mann rested, has survived to this day in Nida.
Even today, Nida is the most important part of the city, stretching over almost 50 km. There are numerous holiday homes and hotels here, and a wide, sandy beach on the seashore. You can also see nice wooden spa buildings in Juodkrantė.
Neringa is surrounded by the Curonian Spit, which is included in the UNESCO list. On its premises there are, among others wandering dunes, as well as coastal forests unspoiled by civilization and wild beaches.
Among the attractions of Neringa are also the Amber Gallery and the Historical Museum, where you can learn about the history of this area. The museum also includes an original fisherman's hut with complete equipment. An interesting place is the Witches' Mountain, where you can see sculptures depicting characters from Lithuanian fairy tales.
