The cathedral is located in the heart of the historic center and has been listed as a national monument in Italy since 1902. Its construction began in 1158 at the behest of Bishop Guido II, and was completed in 1174, and then consecrated in 1176. It is an example of the Romanesque style in sacred architecture.
