Faro degli Italiani d'Argentina is a lighthouse that was built in 1911, on the 50th anniversary of the Kingdom of Italy. Botticino marble was used for its construction, the height of the structure is about 20 meters. The lighthouse stands on Janiculum Hill, which offers a beautiful view of the city.
The construction of the lighthouse was financed by Italian emigrants from Argentina, in this way they paid tribute to the city and its inhabitants. The choice of place was not accidental, it was on this hill in 1849 that there were fights in defense of the Roman Republic. Italian troops led by Giuseppe Garibaldi clashed with Napoleon's troops. It was about freeing yourself from the influence of the Catholic Church and religious freedom for the citizens.
The lighthouse was designed by Manfredo Manfredi, while creating the design it was modeled on classical architecture. The lighthouse was used by family members of prisoners imprisoned in the nearby Regina Coeli prison, who provided various important information from here.
