Foro di Cesare is the remains of a Roman forum, whose construction was started by Caesar in 54 BC. It was the first of the forums built during the empire.
The grandstand square measured 160 m by 75 m, and in its central part was the temple of Venus Genetrix, whose construction was commissioned by Caesar after the victorious battle of Farsalos in 48 BC
The building was preceded by a portico with a double row of columns, and a colonnade surrounded the sides. The whole was decorated with paintings of Timomachos from Byzantium. In front of the temple, Caesar ordered to put his image on a horse and a fountain. Inside the temple there was a statue of the goddess, guardian of the Juliusz family, and next to it a monument to Cleopatra was placed.
The Temple of Venus and the forum were renovated during the construction of the Trajan's Forum. After the restoration, the forum was reopened during the inaugural ceremony of the new forum. To our times, three columns, a fragment of a entablature and a frieze depicting Eros from its interior have survived from the temple of Venus Genetrix.
