Church of St. Blaise

Local name: Chiesa di San Biagio degli Armeni

The church Błażeja was built in the 10th century. The current facade of the temple was made in the 17th century according to the design of Giovanni Antonio Perfetti. Its top is decorated with a wonderful fresco of the miracle of St. Blaise. The church has a real treasure - the throat of its patron. Renovated in the nineteenth century by Philip Navone, the interior of the temple together with the original paintings of angels adoring the Blessed Sacrament by Pietro da Cartony will be an extraordinary treat for those passionate about sacred art.

St. Błażej is considered the patron of throat diseases. Legend has it that the saint saved a boy with a bone stuck in his esophagus by means of prayer. St. memory Błażja is worshiped on February 3 and that day the priest blesses the throats of the faithful with two crossed candles.

The church is also known as San Bagio della Pagnotta. The name comes from small loaves of bread that are blessed on the patron's day and given to the poorest. Since the nineteenth century, the temple is the national church of the Armenians.
