Church of Saint Peter
Local name: Chiesa di San Pietro
A small, picturesque church standing on a steep shore within the Portovenere fortifications.
Its origins date back to the 5th century, and the nave visible to this day was built around 1198. It was built of light and dark strips of stone in the Gothic style. The tower towering over the temple was added during renovation works at the beginning of the 20th century. The interior of the church is almost empty, devoid of decorations and original equipment. A statue of St. Peter and a simple modern altar. There is a nice view of the coast in front of the entrance.Less
