Local name: Parco Nazionale d'Abruzzo, Lazio e Molise
National park created in 1923 in the area of the Southern Apennines. Includes the Sangro Valley and surrounding limestone and dolomite mountains, whose height in the highest parts exceeds 2,200 m above sea level
The park's landscape is very diverse and includes both mountain valleys with deciduous forests, as well as higher mountain meadows and bare rocks. A network of walking, horse and ski trails have been marked out in the park. You can go canoeing on the mountain streams, and nature tours with bird watching are also very popular.
