The statue of Leonardo da Vinci is located in Piazza della Scala. It was solemnly inaugurated during the second national exhibition in 1872 by King Victor Emmanuel II. The monument of Carrara white marble depicts Leonardo da Vinci on a platform surrounded by his 4 outstanding students. The monument commemorates the Italian Renaissance painter, sculptor, architect, philosopher, musician, writer, explorer, mathematician, mechanic, anatomist, inventor and geologist - Leonardo da Vinci.
The idea of creating the monument was born in 1856 in the academic community of Accademia di Belle Arti in Brera. The sculptor Pietro Magni won the competition for the best project. Work on the project was completed after several years due to problems regarding the issue of financing the construction of the monument.
