Piazza dei Mercanti is a square in Milan, which in the Middle Ages was the center of city life. The square was built in the 13th century on a rectangular plan. In the square there are buildings such as Palazzo della Ragione, Loggia degli Osii, Palazzo dei Giureconsulti, Scuole Palatine, Casa dei Panigarola. You can see there two sculptures by Giovan Pietro Lasagna ie Ausonius and Augustine of Hippo. In the very center of the square there is a pit in which eighteenth-century columns are erected. There was once a bankrupt stone on which indebted people served public humiliation.
