Sanctuary of Montenero

One of the most important Tuscan Marian shrines, located on a hill near Livorno. You can see the entire coast and the islands of Sardinia, Corsica and Elba from here. The sanctuary was established in the 14th century thanks to a shepherd who hid the image of the Madonna and Child here from the invasion. The present appearance of the church and surrounding buildings was obtained in the 17th century. In the church museum you can see a collection of votive gifts, vestments and liturgical books.
