Local name: Cattedrale di San Lorenzo

The cathedral being the seat of the Archbishop of Genoa and the symbol of the city. It was built from the 9th to the 12th century, and later rebuilt and refined many centuries later. The Romanesque northern portal, rosette and entrance portal in the French Gothic style, as well as the Renaissance chapel of St. John the Baptist, patron of Genoa. There is a sarcophagus from the 13th century, in which, according to tradition, the remains of St. John.
