The palace, which was the seat of Genoese Doges from the 14th to the beginning of the 19th century. The original building was erected immediately after the establishment of the Genoese republic and was rebuilt several times. In its current, neoclassical form, it was rebuilt in 1775 after a great fire. The interiors are richly decorated with wall paintings and stucco decorations and exhibitions are taking place here today. In the Grimaldin Tower there was a prison in the past, and his most famous prisoner was the violinist Nicolo Paganini.
