The grotto belongs to the Montagna Spaccata sanctuary complex. According to legend, its unusual location above a rocky fissure reaching the sea is associated with the moment of Christ's death. It was then that the veil of the Temple of Jerusalem was torn, and the earth split with it in several places. In the cave you can also see an interesting rock form that looks like an imprinted hand, which was supposed to belong to a Turk who ventured into this area during the invasions.
