The building was erected in the years 1376–1382 by Benci di Cione and Simone Talenti. It was a meeting place for Signoria - city authorities made up of representatives of the richest nobility. You can admire, among others a copy of Cellini's "Perseus with the head of Medusa" (original owned by the Museo Nazionale del Bargello) and ancient female statues.
