Local name: Statua equestre di Cosimo I de' Medici

The monument was erected in 1594, 20 years after the trash of Kosma and Medici. The author of the sculpture was Giambologna (Giovanni da Bologna - 1529-1608). The bas-reliefs on the pedestal of the monument show the three most important moments in the ruler's career: granting the title of Prince of Tuscany, conquering Siena and granting the title of Grand Prince of Tuscany.
