A mountain park with a protected area of nearly 150,000 hectares, on which is located Gran Sasso d'Italia, the highest Italian massif of the Apennines. One of the most interesting areas of the park is the Campo Imperatore plateau (1600-2000 m), which is sometimes called Little Tibet. There is Calderone - the southernmost glacier in Europe.
