The fortress built on the highest hill in the city of Enna is one of the largest medieval castles in Italy. Dating from the 10th century, the building lost its military significance after 1700 and was transformed into a prison, and then into a municipal water tower. Currently, partially restored, it attracts thousands of tourists.
