CASTELL'ARQUATOItaly
Visconti Fortress
Local name: Rocca Viscontea
The fortress was built by the city between 1342 and 1349 on the foundations of an earlier Roman structure. The complex is stylistically very consistent, the walls are alternately made of bricks and stones. The structure is surrounded by a double row of walls. In the 19th and 20th centuries, until the 1960s, the fortress was used as a prison.
