Long and steep stone stairs, contrary to the name, probably made by ancient Greek colonists, not by Phoenicians. Before completing the road, they formed the only path to Anacapri, which is hundreds of feet above the Mediterranean. The upper steps of the Phoenician Stairs lie near Villa San Michele, which Axel Munthe built.
