The lake lies at an altitude of 215-209 m below sea level, which makes it the lowest freshwater lake on Earth. Its circumference is 53 km long and its length reaches 21 km. At the deepest point it measures 43 m. The place where the Jordan River flows into the lake is a popular pilgrimage destination. A network of bike paths and paths has been marked out along the shore.
