German Colony of Haifa

Local name: המושבה הגרמנית (חיפה)

The German colony is situated at the foot of the lower part of the Baha'i Gardens. Its history dates back to the 1860s, when the German, Protestant community of the Templars settled here. The contemporary appearance of the colony is the result of restoration works carried out at the beginning of the 21st century.

Along the main avenue are many cafes, restaurants and boutiques with a distinctive look and red roofs. There is also a small shopping center and a municipal museum dedicated to the history and culture of the city.

From the colony you can go directly to the Baha'i Gardens built on the side of Mount Carmel. From the lowest level you can also see a picturesque panorama of the entire district. You should only remember that when entering the gardens themselves, appropriate clothing is required, covering the arms and legs at least up to the knees.
