The Church of the Redeemer is the only Lutheran church within the Old City of Jerusalem. It is a neo-Romanesque building built at the end of the 19th century. Its tower offers a beautiful view of the entire city. The church is very strict, ascetic. His only decoration is the mosaic depicting the face of Christ.
In 1869, the Kingdom of Prussia received a plot from the Turkish government near the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. In the years 1892-1898 a Protestant church of the Redeemer was built on it. His architecture was called for buildings from the period of the crusades. The tower was modeled on the tower of the Basilica of the Holy Sepulcher. The German emperor Wilhelm II Hohenzollern came to the opening of the church.
The church is a Latin cross-shaped structure with a dome above the intersection of naves. At the facade there is a square tower with a pyramid-shaped finial. It is decorated with cornices and Roman windows in the form of biforia and triforia. On the north door there are symbols of the zodiac signs. The interior is finished in stone and devoid of decorations.
