Montpelier Hill

Montpelier is a hill 383 meters long. At its top, there is a dilapidated hunting lodge built in the second half of the 18th century, commonly known as the Hell Fire Club. The remains of the Killakee Estate can be seen nearby. It was a large Victorian house from the beginning of the 19th century. Right next to the Hell Fire Club, you can also find the remains of a prehistoric transitional tomb, over 5,000 years old.

Members of the Irish Hell Fire Club, which operated from 1735-1741, used Montpelier as a meeting place. Stories of wild orgies, occult practices, and demonic manifestations have become part of the local legend. After the building was destroyed by fire, members of the Hell Fire Club then moved to the nearby Steward's House. From then on, both buildings are to be haunted, in particular by a giant black cat.
