County Museum Dundalk

Local name: Músaem Chontae Dhún Dealgan

The Louth County Museum in Dundalk has a wealth of collections on the history of Louth from the Stone Age to the present day. Permanent exhibitions are located in three thematic rooms. The most interesting items in the museum include the collection related to Irish rock music and exhibits about the figure of Olivier Cromwell - an English politician from the 17th century. The museum also hosts various types of cultural events, such as concerts, theater performances, film screenings, recitals and lectures.

The museum officially opened in 1994. The museum is located in an 18th-century grain warehouse adapted for this purpose. It belonged to the Distillery complex, which closed in 1926. In the 20th century, the building underwent a major renovation. The facility won the Museum of the Year award twice - in 1995 and 1999.
