Bridge Samuela Beckett is a cable-stayed bridge over the River Liffey. It is 123 meters long and is located 48 meters above the water surface. It was built according to the design of the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, who also designed the James Joyce. The shape of the bridge resembles a harp, which is a reference to a traditional Irish instrument, which is also a symbol of the country. The bridge is designed for car and pedestrian traffic.
The bridge can also open 90 degrees, allowing the passage of ships. This is possible thanks to a rotating mechanism located in the base of the pylon. The building was officially opened in 2009 by the mayor of Dublin, Emer Costello. Its construction cost was estimated at around EUR 60 million.
