Keflavík is one of the largest cities in the south of Iceland. It is located on the extended peninsula and boasts an interesting Viking Museum.
In Keflavík there is an international airport that services air traffic in Iceland. Until 2006, a large NATO base operated here, which was closed after protests by residents. There is also a large fishing port and fish processing plants.
The attraction of Keflavík is the so-called Blue Lagoon. It is an artificial lake created at the world's largest geothermal power plant. Its waters are hot and allow bathing even in winter, which also makes many tourists visiting the city.
In Keflavík there is also a Viking Museum with a replica of the boat and items from excavations as well as an ethnographic museum and an exhibition of miniature ship models.
