The National Gallery of Iceland

The institution was established at the end of the 19th century as a private initiative, and then transformed into a national cultural institution that presents native painting and sculpture. Collections of several thousand works are built on the basis of donations and purchases of works of Icelandic artists from the 19th and 20th centuries.
