Vigadó

Local name: Vigadó

The Vigadó Concert Hall is located on the east bank of the Danube and attracts musicians from Hungary and around the world. The hall has several concert halls, as well as exhibition spaces and a cinema hall. This is the second largest concert hall in Hungary.

In addition to concerts, Vigadó also hosts documentary film shows and temporary exhibitions, primarily presenting contemporary art. The monumental Vigadó building is available for visiting with guided tours. The name 'Vigadó' literally means 'place of entertainment'.

Vigadó Concert Hall was founded in the second half of the nineteenth century, after the previous hall standing in this place was destroyed during the Spring of Nations. The building was designed by Frigyes Feszel. The facade of the building is decorated with a Hungarian coat of arms and statues of figures that were of special importance for Hungarian history. The interior of the building is decorated with frescoes by Károly Lotz and Mór Than.
