The Danube Promenade is located on the Pest side of the Danube and stretches between the Elizabeth Bridge and the Chain Bridge. Walking along this promenade, you can see numerous monuments, several important buildings (including the Vigadó Concert Hall, the Art Nouveau Palace of Gresham and the seat of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences). From the promenade you can also admire the famous Budapest bridges and the other side of the city, Buda.
The most interesting monuments on the promenade include "Shoes on the Danube River". It is an unusual monument commemorating the victims of the Hungarian fascist organization of the Arrow Crusaders, who were shot on the banks of the Danube. Before murder, the victims were ordered to take off their shoes, which is why the monument has the form of sixty pairs of shoes scattered along the waterfront. Along the promenade we will also find monuments to József Attila (author of the poem "On the banks of the Danube"), Sándor Petőfi, William Shakespeare and Mihály Vörösmarty.
