Holy Church of Panagia Kapnikiaras

One of the oldest churches in Athens. It was built in the middle of the eleventh century, but according to tradition, it is more than 200 years earlier and was built on the order of Empress Irena. It is a small cross-plan temple with an open vestibule and high dome. The entire building is surrounded by a frieze created from antique reliefs.
