The baroque church was built in the 17th century on the ruins of an earlier temple erected in honor of St. Koloman. Apparently, this Irish pilgrim was resting here in the summer of 1012 during his pilgrimage to the Holy Land. Located at the foot of the Schwangauer mountains, and also near the world-famous castle Neuschwanstein, the church is one of the most famous monuments in Bavaria.
