The palace, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, was the meeting place of the participants of the Potsdam conference in 1945. It was built in 1913-1917 for Wilhelm Hohenzollern and his wife Cecylia. One of the rooms was styled as the cabin of a passenger ship - according to legend, under its floor was supposed to work the engine generating the sounds of the engine room.
