Designed in 1937 by Albert Speer, the stadium was to be part of the NSDAP convention area. It was modeled on ancient Greek and Roman buildings and was to have the shape of a horseshoe. Completion of construction was planned for 1943, but after the outbreak of war, work was discontinued. To this day, the remains of the stands, the outline of the building and stone blocks brought to the construction site are visible.
