The history of the temple dates back to the time of Otto the Great (912-973), whose tomb is located in the cathedral. The temple preserved until today, whose construction began in 1206, is considered a treasury of Gothic sacred art. Originally a Catholic church during the Reformation, it became a strong cultural and intellectual center of Lutheranism.
