This is one of the oldest Shia mosques in Europe. It houses the Islamic Center, which has become one of the leading Shiite centers in the Western world. Many Iranian theologians and politicians have studied and spent time here, which has contributed to a greater understanding of Shiite Islam in the West.
The facility was built in 1965. During the tour, tourists can see not only the original interior of the temple, but also one of the world's largest round, hand-woven rugs.
The Center regularly hosts prayers, seminars, lectures and Islamic festivals. Visitors can see the mosque, but also take part in numerous discussions and lectures that are aimed at breaking stereotypes about Islam.
The Center played a significant role in bringing about the political uprising of Iranian students in the West against the ruler of Iran in the seventies.
