Stadtpark is a park called the "green lungs of Hamburg". The most famous point of the park is the Planetarium, located in the former water tower. At night it is illuminated in different colors. The tower dates from 1914 and is 64 m high. It extends from it along the avenue leading to the Great Meadow, which borders on the artificial lake Stadtparksee. In addition, there are playgrounds, sports facilities and 22 works of art, mainly made of stone and bronze, throughout the park.
The lake in the park is connected to the extensive network of Hamburg waterways through Goldbekkanal. Ferries at Alster operate the connection between Stadtpark and Jungfernstieg in the city center. It is worth mentioning that every year in September there is a vintage car race here.
Stadtpark was opened in 1914. It is an important and illustrative example of German landscape design and how to transform an urban garden into a park.
