Focke Museum

Local name: Focke-Museum

The museum presents the art, history and culture of the city. It consists of four historic buildings and a modern main building, and the whole is surrounded by a park. The facility presents exhibitions on the history of the city itself, applied art, traditional home decor, archeology and prehistory, toys and rural life, as well as a 500-year-old glass collection and a rescue cruiser.

The exhibition on the history of the city is located in the main building of the museum and presents the fight for independence of the inhabitants, and above all the history of the city over 1200 years. Applied art in the city and its surroundings can be seen on examples of the goldsmith Johann Wilhelm Schulze, cermic Auguste Papendiecka or modern advertising from the beginning of the 20th century. The collection about home decor mainly presents furniture and furnishings from the 16th to 20th century, and prehistoric presents the methods of work of Bremen archaeologists, finds and ways to secure them. The glass collection contains objects made of glass dating back to the 13th century. The rescue cruiser floating on the sea in 1969-2000 is also interesting, where the history of German rescue shipping is presented, and visitors in a special control room can take part in an interactive rescue mission.
