The center of modern and contemporary art being one of the most important cultural centers in Germany. The gallery building was built in the 1960s according to the design of the famous architect Philip Johnson. The permanent exhibition is primarily devoted to German expressionism, international contemporary sculpture and modernism. The gallery also has a concert hall.
