Regional Natural Park Scarpe-Escaut
Local name: Parc naturel régional Scarpe-Escaut
The Scarpe Escaut Regional Nature Park lies on the border with Belgium. It covers forest and meadow areas as well as many agricultural towns. The main city of the region is rich in monuments Valenciennes. The park also has the spa town of Saint-Amand-les-Eaux.
The park was founded in 1968 and is the oldest in France. He closely cooperates with his Belgian counterpart, creating a trans-natural-cultural border. Several dozen kilometers of walking and cycling routes have been marked out. They lead mainly through lowland forests.
There are over 50 villages of various types in the park. Many of them are focused on agriculture. Traveling around the region, you can see herds grazing in the fields. There are also many cheese and home-made factories here.
